Limited Show, 30th January 2011. Judge: Mr Paul Cheeseman

Judges Critique: Mr P. Cheeseman

It was on my part a great honour and privilege to be asked to judge this club show. As usual the reception and hospitality north of the border was of the highest order. I would like to thank the committee and members of this fine club, and offer a huge thank you to my steward on the day Mr E. Houston. Overall, and with only a handful of exceptions, I found movement generally to be below standard, but, maybe due to the recent cold weather, coats on the whole were very good.

Puppy Dog. 6(1a)
1. Lowry. Ravenside Workforce. 6mth grizzle & tan. Promising head, nice eye and ear. Good coat and body shape. Lots of promise in this little chap, one to watch. R.B.P.
2. Golding. Beaconpike Red Saturn. Slightly more on the leg than class winner but still a nice pup. Preferred head and expression of class winner. Good coat.

Junior Dog. 1(1a)
Yearling Dog. 2(1a)
1. Price. Hollowpoint Gunsmoke. 23mth blue & tan. Nice outline, strong head and big teeth. Harsh coat with a thick pelt. Moved ok and very well presented.
Maiden Dog. 3(1a)
1. Lambert & Urie. Talex Blue Mist. Blue & tan pup, stood 3rd in puppy. Nice coat, good rear angulation. Good feet.
2. Rendall. Timo Tornado. Blue & tan pup, stood 4th in puppy. Similar to class winner, lovely short tail.
Novice Dog. 3(2a)
1. Talex Blue Mist

Post Graduate Dog. 4(1a)
1. Golding. Ashbrae Fellman at Beaconpike. 2yr 5mth Grizzle & tan. Decent head & expression, good coat, straight front, good shoulder, nice rib. R.B.I.S.

2. Gow. Piper of Argyll. 2yr grizzle & tan. Not as racy as class winner, good coat & pelt, nice head & eye, short thick tail.

Open Dog. 7(2a)
1. Gow. Argyll Drummer. 3yr grizzle & tan. Nice dog, not short of bone. Good body shape, moved ok, good coat & pelt.
2. Houston. Earthwise Wolfbane. 3yr grizzle & tan. Finer made than class winner. Coat ok, strong rear, nice size.

Special Beginners Dog. 2(1a)
1. Timo Tornado

Puppy Bitch. 5(1a)
1. Lowry. Ravenside Snow Fairy. 6mth grizzle & tan. Very immature but showing lots of promise for the future. Good coat, lovely narrow rib, nice tail. Nice rear, good bone, moved well when she settled in the line up. Best Puppy.
2. Golding. Beaconpike in a Storm. 8mth grizzle & tan. Finer in bone than class winner, narrow straight front, good coat, moved ok.

Junior Bitch. 5(1a)
1. Master C Johnston. Joncroft Never Unprepared. 2yr grizzle & tan. Straight front, nice rear angulation, tight feet. Lovely strong head & muzzle, big teeth, nice small dark ear. Good coat & thick pelt. Lovely neck, shoulder, rib & body. Best mover on the day by far. Well done to her young owner & handler. Best in Show.
2. Barratt. Howthwaite Amber Grain. 16mth grizzle & tan. Similar type to class winner, but was short of coat today. Nice shape & size, moved well, will no doubt have her day. Was unlucky to come up against class winner today.
Yearling Bitch 3(0a)
1. Joncroft Never Unprepared.
2. Houston. Hollowpoint New Beginning for Earthwise. 23mth blue & tan. Nice front & rear, harsh coat, moved ok.
Maiden Bitch 3(2a)
1. Houston. Earthwise Gregory`s Girl. 10mth blue & tan. Coat ok, needs time to mature on.

Novice Bitch 7(2a)
1. Outerson. Bowmar Lass. 2yr grizzle & tan. Nice size, good coat, was a little keen on the move, needs reeling in a little and she would look better again.
2. Earthwise Gregory`s Girl.

Post Graduate Bitch 10(1a)
1. Joncroft Never Unprepared.
2. Golding. Foxcraig Magic Star at Beaconpike. 3yr grizzle & tan. Strong head & muzzle. Good coat & pelt, moved ok.

1. Barratt. Irton Strawberry Fair at Howthwaite. 4yr grizzle & tan. Strong head & muzzle, big teeth. Tremendous coat & pelt. Moved well.
2. Johnston. Joncroft Yuletide. 6yr grizzle & tan. Nice outline, moved ok, good front & rear. Not the head of class winner.

Special Beginners Bitch 2(1a)
1. Clements. Bramblebee Squiglet. 2yr grizzle & tan. Good coat, nice shape, needs to tighten up on the move.

Veteran Dog or Bitch 8(3a)
1. Gregory. Remony Sunset Song. 10yr grizzle & tan bitch. Still has her shape, showed a lot of younger borders how to move today. Nice feminine head, showed herself off well.
2. Houston. Earthwise Anastasia. 11yr grizzle & tan bitch. Very close to class winner, just lost out on not showing herself quite as well. Two lovely bitches.

Brace 5(2a)
1. Johnston.

2. Gow.
3. Tully.

Members Rally, 5th September 2010.
The rally was very well attended by old hands and new owners alike! Luckily the weather was kind to us all day which allowed most activities to take place outdoors. Again, there was something for everyone - plenty time to chat to owners over lunch, terrier racing, a talk on the breed standard, a bit of ringcraft practice, a talk/demo on the care of the border's coat and fun agility relay races. We even had a couple of 'foreigners' from over the Border!

But we saved the best until last........

Open Show, 5th June 2010. Judge: Mrs M. Barrass
Beautiful weather seemed to keep everyone in good spirits at our Open Show! Well done to all the winners and many thanks to our judge, Mrs Barrass, for giving up her day for us. We hope everyone enjoyed the show.
